Welcome! I’m Kayla. Or Kay for short. The 20-something-year-old behind Whimsical and Quirky Crafts. Aside from crafting, I love books and nature. I also have an obsession with chocolate chip cookies and sweatpants 🙂
For as long as I can remember, my Mom has been a crafter. She taught me how to sew when I was 8. I learned how to embroider/ cross-stitch around 12 years old. A few years later I received some yarn, a hook, and an, “I taught myself to crochet”, book for a birthday present.
I fell in love with fiber arts.
Flash forward to my high school years. Everyone was asking which career path I wanted to follow. And I didn’t have a solid answer. While there were a lot of options that I wanted to explore, none interested me more than running my own business.
After graduation, I moved away for a gap year and get lost in the hustle. I worked two jobs for the majority of 2 years.
Unfortunately, in November 2019, I would be in and out of Urgent Care almost on a weekly basis. After so many tests, having to wear a heart monitor, and many doctor appointments, I would eventually be diagnosed with PCOS and endometriosis.
I had to quit both my jobs and was out of work for a little less than 2 years.
When I was feeling up to it, I would craft. Creating projects that would bring me comfort, put a smile on others’ faces, and beautify the space I was living in, not only filled my time but also filled my heart.
I need a way to connect with others so I started an Instagram page @whimsical_and_quirky_crafts to share my projects in November 2020.
I received requests for a few custom orders. Which was really exciting and encouraging!
Since then a lot has changed. I’ve learned to manage my health problems (for the most part), started working a traditional job again, and WQCrafts has outgrown a hobby side hustle and turned into a business. Whimsical and Quirky Crafts was born out of a need for connection and a love of creation.
So, welcome to Whimsical and Quirky Crafts! This is the place to come for beautiful handcrafted items; such as crochet plushies, home décor pieces, and more. Each and every object has been created with care.
I promise these products will leave you smiling as they connect you with others. Leaving everyone, with wonderful memories for years to come.
